Our School - Steve's English School

Our Policy

Small Class

We limit the number of students to 5 per class for our regular English lessons and 8 students for our summer English lessons. All of our students have chances to speak throughout the lesson, and this allows the teacher to know what each student needs to learn to improve faster.

Personalization

We make students' work books to personalize the lessons for each class. The new student book is made for each class every 8 weeks for weekday and adult lessons, and every 16 weeks for weekend lessons. The books' difficulty changes to facilitate our students' improvements.

Motivating

By choosing interesting books and articles, we generate students' motivation. We also give awards when students work hard and improve much. Grades are given to each student's work everyday. We try to give students interesting lessons for them to have fun as they learn.

Academic Lessons

The lessons given to children are academic to obtain good grades at school. We teach students to comprehend articles well, learn more vocabulary, write good compositions, and use proper English grammar.

Building Confidence

Learning with us certainly builds students' confidence because we grade most of our students' work. All of our students get to know their mistakes and learn how to fix them. Homework is given to students every class, and the completed work is carefully checked by the teacher with a good explanation of their mistakes. Good grades after fixing their mistakes make students feel a sense of accomplishment.

History

Started from Private Lessons

Steve's English School was first started from private lessons. Steve came back to his home, Montreal, from South Korea in the summer of 1999, and started teaching a few private students with the teaching skills he had learned from his great experience at public and private elementary schools and a college in South Korea. The students were from South Korea, and Steve taught them to catch up with their studies taught in English at school.

Success in teaching Korean students

Eventually, a number of students wanted to study with Steve because his Korean students performed extraordinarily well at their elementary and secondary schools in Montreal even though they are non-English speakers. Some of his students were awarded the best in their class or even at their school.

Adult Lessons at Church

On the side of tutoring students, he started to teach English to adults from South Korea to help their lives as parents in Montreal at a church. A part of the lesson fee was donated to the church as a charity.

Opening Steve's English School

Finally, Steve decided to open his own school in the year 2000, which is Steve's English School, because many students appreciated his teaching and more and more students who heard about his teaching ability wanted to study with him. He also felt great accomplishment in helping students' lives by improving their English.

Being successful as a school

We also started our summer intensive lessons in 2004. The school has gotten bigger and more popular among students until now, however, we still keep our policy to have 5 students per class to keep up our lesson quality. We always try and want to improve students, so many of our classes are full with waiting students on the list.
